HW 56 - Interviews & Survey Question

My Research Question: Can zodiac signs predetermine how a relationship is going to play out, if so what are the chances that your zodiac sign is insignificant?

Interview Questions:
1. what is your zodiac sign?
2. do you know the zodiac sign of some of your ex's?
3. are your least compatible sings some of your worst relationships? (vice versa)
4. do you think having compatible signs make a difference?
5. when choosing a partner how important is matching a zodiac sign?
6. if you found out a potential partner is your opposite sign, would this matter?
7. do you feel restrained by your zodiac sign (when it comes to love/relationships)?

People to interview:
1.Jennifer
1. Leo
2. Yes
3. Actually, no. So far, signs haven t had any significant meaning in my relationships.
4. No, because not every Leo is the same, not every Aries, Capricorn, etc are the same. I think it all depends on the 2 individuals if the relationship will work out.
5. To me it s not important at all. I don t even ask people their signs.
6. No!
7. No. I don t even see myself as a typical Leo when it comes to relationships.

Analysis:
My research is based mainly on predetermining how a potential relationship will work out. I want to focus this on the predictions of zodiac signs and how compatible people should be. Jennifer said she doesn’t see herself as being a Leo in a relationship. This makes me think that people can have different personality traits in and out of a relationship.

2.Brandon
1. Aries
2. Yes
3. I haven’t noticed anything significant but my past bad relationships had involved signs that clash with mine.
4. It could but I wouldn’t know.
5. A conversation like this wouldn’t come up until later on in the relationship.
6. No
7. No, not at all.

Analysis:
In this situation, he noticed that he clashed with his ex’s that are his opposite zodiac signs. Although they still had a functioning relationship, I cant determine if the cause of a bad relationship if other things or zodiac matching. Although he notices he does not get along with ex’s that oppose his zodiac sign it wont stop him from meeting potential partners. Matching zodiac signs are not a priority in relationships for him.

3.Eden
1. Pisces
2. Yes
3. No
4. Sometimes
5. Not that important
6. No
7. No

Analysis:
[Although her answers are short I spoke to her more about it over the phone and was unable to record her answers.] She mentioned that growing up in a Spanish house hold meant that her grandmother was very into things like spirits, the future, and Zodiac signs. She thinks that having matching zodiac signs can sometimes be important because if two people are alike then they should have no problem having a good relationship. This was surprising because It's much more common to hear people say opposites attract rather than two people whoa re alike.

Survey Question:
When choosing a potential partner how important is matching a zodiac sign?

HW 52 - Initial Theories of Human Relationships

Insights and Theories:
-Humans have awkward relationships with themselves. We can’t help but always filter our thoughts and actions.
-The Beatles had it right when they said all you need is love. I think people really will do anything to hold onto the relationship they have with others. When true love is involved in relationships, people value that relationship to there highest priorities.
- In terms of structure and power, people normally pay attention to the loudest speaker. The loudest people usually get the most attention.
-Inner personal dynamics can be some of the hardest or easiest things to overcome. I wonder why some peoples relationship’s with them selves are stronger or weaker than others.
-Trail and error is one of the most natural ways in making decisions in social structures.
-Gender is becoming a light subject for my generation. So many people seem to be more comfortable with there sexuality. Lots of girls seems more open to the idea of becoming gay.
-Family is the most important thing to me; I was lucky enough to have a cool family that is easy to love.
-I would like to say I don’t think there should be standards or rules to how we live but I’m a strong believer in structure and order even if I chose not to follow then from time to time.

Questions:

Do all humans need motivation? / What triggers motivation?
-Right now at the end of the school year the hardest thing for me to do is find motivation. There are obvious motivations like walking in graduation and going to college but my motivation gets clouded in the now.
How do humans learn social structure in a house hold?
-When people live together it can make or break a relationship. Why do some of these people never get along and change for one another [siblings].
Why do people make friends?
-I hear the saying all the time “God made friends because family sucks”.

HW 48 - Treatment for Savior/Teacher Movie

The first scene opens up with a spotlight on a girl [Lauren]. Room is black and she say’s a small monologue about school and tropes. “This small film will be filed with all this trope nonsense. ” The spotlight will brighten and it turns out that she’s in a classroom. The story will consist of how a struggling student truly has no more passion or will to do good in school. Its all become a routine. A new bright-eyed teacher [Kelly] sees hidden potential in her and takes her under her wing. A strong relationship becomes of the two followed by some success. But no bright light hopeful ending here, the girl doesn’t graduate and loses hope all over again.

I want to focus on how teachers have similar powers to a parent when it comes to influencing a student. In this story the child is lacking parental substance and therefore becomes consumed with the idea of focusing on school. Kelly will be like mommy number 2 and push Lauren to new heights. The bond that they create becomes powerful where it’s translated over into Kelly bringing Lauren to new horizons. [My main argument from past posts: Teachers can have the ability to control students like or dislike towards a class or even subject.] Kelly will begin to like new school again and find her passion.

I also like Ja Min’s approach to what the teacher is teaching. I like the idea of making something funny like the teacher teaching student to stand up to bullies.

HW 47 - Class film preparation 1

-Teacher vs. school [school needs teacher, teacher doesn't want to help]
-NO words just music
-Black and white 1 color element [when things become color things get better]
-Student teaching teacher*
-Starting film with quick monologue "This will be a stereotypical film"
-Starting film with how the story ends
-Nontraditional setting for the educational parts
-Teacher trying to get students to side with him so he can take over school.

*I would like to do a similar story to my experience last year with Ms. Cole. With a lot of effort we finally broke through her though exterior and brought a funnier person to the classroom. Although yes, she was the one doing the teaching, I believe we were the ones doing the daily mini lessons of how to become a "SOF teacher".

HW 46 - Research and Writing

Christopher John Francis Boone is a young autistic kid who finds a neighbors dead poodle on their lawn. Being one of the suspects Christopher takes it upon himself to find out who the real killer is. While doing his investigation he comes to find that his father has lied to him about his mother’s death and is also Wellington’s killer. Astonished Christopher runs away on a journey looking for his mother. Along the journey Christopher learns more about himself and pushes his comfort levels to new extents. I would say the main idea of the book is Christopher’s battle to understand humans and their emotions.
Although my book is about a teacher student relationship I wanted to focus more on the relationship they have in the classroom. The curious incident of the dog in the night-time is more about how the teacher / para affect’s Christopher in life.
In the text Christopher relates to his para Siobhan more as a friend that helps him glide through everyday life. Their relationship is very unique and precious because Siobhan has the role of teaching Christopher things that come natural to others. He has such a dependent relationship when it comes to her. She teachers him natural functions that come to people. Having a bond like that is what makes this teacher student relationship so rich. This relationship is perfect for what I’m trying to prove. Teacher student relationship’s can be very influential on a student’s life.

HW 41 - Initial Internet Research on Schooling

IM not sure how fascinating my topic might be to others, but its interesting to me how much students allow teachers to direct there experiences in school. Most people base there experience's from school off of an event with a teacher.

"My Teacher, My Inspiration: Without even realizing it, teachers have the ability to create a strong like or dislike for the subject they teach their students. The most monotonous / serious subjects can be made interesting by an inspired and dedicated teacher." [source 5]

This quote supports my whole view on school. I posted the quote because this website doesn’t serve a main point but shows the different views of being a teacher. The most important part in the quote is how they specify, “without even realizing it”. In that sentence alone is the essence of the affect a teacher can have on a student.

"Role Of Teachers In A Student / Child's Life." contentwriter.in. 2009. contentwriter.in, Web. 1 Mar 2010. .

Just like kids have parents to nature them and prepare them for the world, kids look upon teachers to have some sort of X factor as well because teachers help them become prepared in the real world as well.

HW 40 - School Interviews x 5 & Synthesis

Part A: I went into these interviews not wanting to ask prewritten question but to ask question that would add to their last response. All of my interviews are conversations and that’s why I only have main ideas and concepts that they said as notes. I interviewed my grandmother who only made it to fourth grade; she doesn’t have much experience with school but holds it to a high pedestal. I interviewed my dad, a Hiram who just got kicked out of college, Jen who dropped out of high school, Bryan who is still in high school and Kenny who is a senior. (Sorry I know there is six I read the HW wrong)

Grandma:
-Living in poverty only allowed her to go to fourth grade. She learned how to write and read it turned out to be the only thing she really needed in life. She doesn’t really know what kids today are learning but it was always a must that her kids go and get an education. Even with her attempts her kids didn’t get very far in school but it didn’t stop them from having good lives. Overall all the lessons that she needed to know she learned outside of school.

Poops:
“I love school and I’m a big supporter”
-Teachers made school amazing for him, in his times teachers were nice and supper helpful. The only reason he stopped was so that he could get a job and help his parents out financially. In school he learned he had a passion for math, this passion mainly came from the motivation that his teachers gave him. Luckily he chose a career that worked in his favor. If one of his kids dropped out it would be unacceptable although he knows school is much different know.

Hiram:
He hates school and is having to deal with it now. The only motivation he feels to go to school is the harsh economy; his true passion is on the court. Although being a smart kid he often got bad grades because of his lack of motivation. Going to Museum left him with too much independence, if he could change school he rather go to a high school that allows students to get more experience with occupations like others schools have with nursing programs.

Jen:
When looking back on school she couldn’t remember anything except hating it, maybe that was one of the main factors of her dropping out. She hated the routine and felt above it, “waking up and going to do something you dislike feels horrible”. “When the teachers don’t care it makes it easy for a student not to care also.” She thinks having too much independence at a young age results in no good. She continued to hate school until she met the right teacher who showed her that she could do something with her life outside of school. She viewed school as just a stepping stone.

Bryan:
Hates school. It was hard to focus on anything else because he kept repeating it over and over. He views elementary school as his glory days because he was popular and the work was easy, the teachers felt like go getters to him and it rubbed off. His school leaves him no room to be creative and even gives him a dress code that they enforce. Most of his work is time consuming not challenging and that’s the most frustrating part. He doesn’t leave because he has a strong connection to his friends that he can’t give up. If he could change one thing it would be that he makes school more interesting.

Kenny:
If he could change the school system it would be so that school goes to 10th grade and after that you spend the last two years doing internships testing the waters for a potential occupation. He thinks school is a great thing but feels that people lose passion along the way much like himself. As a student he always found school very challenging and not so much hard. With all the time spent in school he feels like the only thing he will ever use is what he learned in elementary school. He says being senior is the worst thing ever and wishes the pressure wasn’t so bad. {I agree!}

Part B: To me it seems that teachers really set the tone of a student’s experience in school. Almost all of the responses included something about how teachers affect them. I really was thinking about what Bryan said when he mentioned how the teacher’s mood rubbed off in him. I think as teachers are in the field longer they lose their passion and so do we as time goes on it ends up with people hating school. I think it all comes down to how much people love to perform, if teachers enforce a more positive outlook onto things the students will respond better and gain motivation in themselves.
